in my bedroom ceiling while
I waited for you
I listened to two CDs
ate two meals
vacuumed one room
lit three candles
watched one-half
of one movie
watered seven plants
straightened eleven books
I felt my chest grow heavier
as one…two…three
four hours passed
I watched the phone
I willed it to ring, which it did
but it was never you
on the other end of the receiver
I crossed my leg and shook my foot
and noticed how it made the couch vibrate
I stared at the wall and I
