Hey Jealousy

Yes, indeed - I have a new job! I start on the 24th and I'm quite excited.

The company that hired me seems to really believe in my abilities and skills, and wants me to jump in and shake things up. How refreshing! I could really use a challenge, so I'm very excited. I also get to work closely with some people I used to work for, and whom I admire and respect. So, that part of it is a dream come true. Everything seems so good, I'm wondering, "What's the catch?"

Hopefully, there is no catch. Hopefully, this isn't like that Keanu Reeves movie and I won't find out my boss is the devil. Although for what they're paying me, I'd work for Hitler. KIDDING. Only kidding!

There is one thing I do need to vent about. There are a handful of people I know (who will of course remain anonymous and probably don't even know who they are, anyway) who say things to me that indicate that they think good things just magically happen to me (career-wise). As if I have no freestanding talent of my own. As if I just wander through life, riding the coattails of people with actual talent. As if I haven't WORKED MY ASS OFF to get - and excel at - every job I've ever had. As if!

So when I tell them I have a new job they say things like, "Oh, did so-and-so get that job for you?" Excuse me?! NO. So-and-so did NOT "get that job" for me - I got the goddamn job on the goddamn basis of my own goddamn merits, muthafucka!

It really irks me. Though, as I was saying to Mopsa, perhaps in some backhanded way it's really a compliment. Like maybe I just make it look so easy that people assume that better jobs and promotions just fall out of the sky whenever I walk by.

Whatever. I ain't lettin' nobody rain on my parade. 2005 is The Year of the Meghan, remember?

Have you ever heard this saying:

"Good luck is a lazy man's estimate of a worker's success."

I don't know who said it. But it seems you're saying it again here.

You kick ass. Plain and simple. People who consistently kick ass are sought after. It looks lucky. But the root of it is work.

Jealous bastards all.... so f**k em Meg... The people that know and love you, figured out a long time ago that you're a hotshot pistol.....

I am anxious to hear all about the new gig.

Seriously though, did so-and-so get you that job?

God bless you, Eddie. I'm glad you're back to provide the searing commentary that's been lacking around here.

And yes, so-and-so TOTALLY got me the job. Duh!
