Three Decades Strong

In fourteen days, I'm going to be THIRTY. 3-0.

I don't care so much about getting older, but it is weird to step out of my twenties. It's now officially uncool of me to think high school guys are hot. I'm in a different box on all the government forms. I can now watch thirtysomething and get all the references. It's just...weird.

I have no idea what to do for a party. We discussed going to Palm Desert for a long weekend to visit my dad (he's fled winter and is living there until March), but it seems wiser to save our pennies for house projects, and the two trips we're taking this Spring (Virginia in April for Caryn's wedding and Ohio in May for Nora's graduation).

So, now all that's left to decide is what to do for a party. Last year, I had a rollerskating party. This year, I'm fresh out of ideas. It needs to be utterly awesome, and family-friendly (as nearly every woman I know is currently swelled up with child or has recently given birth). Any ideas?

FYI: in the "it's been done" category we have:
- Ice skating
- Roller skating
- Getting wasted

I need some new ideas.

Here's what I've got:

1) snow-tubing/sledding followed by hang-out time in the jacuzzi that has been rented for the evening and is sitting in your driveway.

2) Paintball. Fetals love that.

3) Make all your friends who are attending your party perform or present something for you (make a short film, design a comic strip, sing you a song, write you a poem, read something that reminds them of you, etc.) Give everyone plenty of notice so there's no excuses, then have the evening's events MCd by someone who is cool and is not you. Then you get to be all honored and stuff and everyone goes home happy.

You could take a romantic vacation to Cincinnati, Ohio. My friends and I would throw you an awesome party, and we would even pay for the kegs ourselves. Plus, you could lust after hott college guys, which is not even creepy when you're 30. It's acceptable and expected.
