Action Has a New Hero

Did you know that Jean-Claude Van Damme did an ad for caffeinated gum called Black Black? It's true. (Japander link courtesy of the mauvebalogue.)

Little known fact: I used to love J-C. I've seen nearly all of his films up throught the late '90s when I lost interest. Oh, you want to know my favorite? That's easy: 1990's Death Warrant.

One of my favorite things about J-C's films (apart from the Van Dammage he wreaks and the fact that he always does the splits while the camera is on his ass and feels no shame about it) is that they always have to come up with an explanation for his accent. Sometimes he's Cajun, sometimes he's Canadian, sometimes he's from a mysterious European location.

What's even more fun is when he plays twins. I mean, not only is there double the Van Dammage, but they also have to come up with a reason why twins, raised separately, somehow have the same accent. Usually, it means that one was raised in Canada, on in a mysterious European location. They just don't make movies like that anymore.

get a job.

;-)

and you dont' think that "the Rundown" was that kind of movie?

Two vital differences between The Rundown and any J-C movie:

1. The Rundown was funny on purpose.

2. The Rock doesn't do the splits.

I used to LOVE Black Black gum! I had a friend in Akita, Japan whould send me boxes and boxes of the shit, in trade for Kraft Mac and Cheese! Seriously. It's good stuff!
