Ring Ding

Now that all the family members have gotten the obligatory call, I can now say out loud and online that I am engaged. Pretty sweet, huh?! Also, crazy. But they say that when you know, you know and I know that I know, you know?

So yeah, that's what happened on Sunday. I was sitting at the table, drinking coffee, eating breakfast (courtesy of the cooking prowess of you-know-who. Too bad about that smoke alarm, honey!), and doing the crossword. Jeremy had been acting weird for days, and it was making me a little crabby. Although we had talked about getting married, I didn't connect the weirdness with possible engagement anxiety.

So, there I am. He kneels down next to me at the table to help me with the crossword. It's sort of awkward positioning, and I'm already a little crabby, so I say something like, "Maybe you should take this and go sit on the couch."

He replies, "What's 119 down?"

I look. The clue is "altar words." The answer, "I do." I look down at the crossword, and suddenly there is this little black box there, and I notice that he's, like, on his knee, and he's saying, "Will you marry me?"

And in the .01 seconds between his question and my answer, I think to myself that I can't believe this is how it's happening - that here, in the kitchen, in all my bed-headed morning-breathed territorial-about-the-crossword glory, this man wants to marry me.

So I say, "Yes," and we kind of freak out about it for an hour or two. Then we clean the garage.

That's what makes me think that this is it, that this will last forever. Because cleaning the garage with him was exactly where I wanted to be. Because every moment since I met him has been better than all the moments before I met him. Because the mundane tasks of life: eating dinner, going to sleep, waking up, grocery shopping, doing laundry...these things are somehow wonderful when I'm doing them with him. Because suddenly, I understand why married people say to single people, "Whew, I'm glad I don't have to date anymore." Because we're like yin and yang. Because the sweetest sound I've ever heard is the sound of him playing video games in the basement right below me at this very moment (on the PlayStation 2 I got him as an engagement gift. I mean, it's hardly fair for just the girl to get something shiny and fun!).

So, here we go. Da-dum-dum-dum. Wish me luck, and pray that this doesn't become Blog of Bridezilla.

"Because we're like yin and yang..."

I never really thought a crossword puzzle could be romantic, but there it is. A symbol for your domesticity, but now, also one of love.

Congratulations, sucker. No just kidding, me and wife always tell that to people who get in engaged.

Miss soon-to-be Mrs. Meg -

Congratu-fucking-lations! Rock on sister! And a heartfelt congrats to you too Jeremy! Sapphire and Diamonds... Nice Ice!

Yay! I'm going to celebrate for you this weekend! "Love is in the air... everywhere I look around!"

"Whoop Whoop" (a direct quote from Bec) I am so excited for you and Jeremy. Best of luck - I can't wait to see you get your Bridezilla On!

Congratulations!!!

Have fun planning your big day! Be sure to let us know what you're up to!

Rocking good news, ma'am. Does this mean, like, Elvis wedding in Vegas?

How romantic! It's just like Jewel says, "Follow your heart! Your intution! Love will lead you in the right direction!" And it did. Jewel is right once again. Good for you! Right now, I'm engaged to a box of Pepperidge Farm Mint Milanos and Days of Our Lives.

Yes, we are posting this comment together from Old Chicago @ the bar... Congratulations to you both! Make sure the date is not July 10th, cause we are expecting you to attend our wedding that day!

That I am thrilled for you both, is an understatement.

That I had any small measure of involvement in your meeting, is my good fortune.

That I had the slightest hint of precognition concerning this outcome, is simple. All anyone needed to do, was watch you together to know that great forces were at play.

I saw a qoute from Friedrich Schiller that reminded me of you two.......

"There is no such thing as chance; and what seem to us merest accident springs from the deepest source of destiny."

My love to you both...

congrats meghan! nora gave me your website, so i thought i would say hi. HI!!!!

Finally! Way to go. In the profound words of matt wilson, "Marriage? I highly recommend it."

Yowza, marriage!? Congratulations! Let me be the first to say "all the best in years to come".

What a divine proposal! I think he's a keeper ;-)

Congrats to both of you -- and let the wedding planning madness begin!

Better late than never, but huge congrats to you!

(coughcoughPRENUPcoughcough)

Wheeeee!

ALL of the family members, meghan?

like i said when i first heard you tell it: awesome

okay, erin. so ALL the family members didn't get a call...but that would take weeks and a whole team of telemarketers!

Ooooh, congratulations! You really do sound happy together.

I didn't get a chance to say so when I saw you last week, but here goes: Congratulations! I was reading the part about the crossword puzzle and I though I was going to get weepy. But I don't get weepy, really, so it happened psychologically. I'm so happy for you! Now I want to treat the both of you to creme brulee.

umm... I stumbled across this site and just wanted the irish girl to know that 'drunk dialing' is a fabulous poem and i couldn't have said it better myself. cheers. c
