Valentiny

Despite lack of sleep, I had one of the best Valentine's Days I've ever had.

My first official "Valentine" was of course the lovely CD from Jennie on Thursday night. Friday I left work early, picked up some gifts for her baby shower (which was this morning), and came home to a Valentine card from mama in the mailbox.

The cover says, "If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun. - Katharine Hepburn." Inside my mom wrote "Not that you ever followed them, anyway! Meggie - Happy St. Valentine's Day! Hope your year is full of many exciting adventures. Love, Your Mother." Moms rule.

Went down to Kieran's to compete in the Erotica Slam and came in 5th out of 28. I wish I would have done better, but mostly I'm just glad I got into all 3 rounds and got to read my last piece, which I just wrote and had never read out loud before. I added it to the poetry section. It used to be two poems (one of which is listed as "Promise (unfinished)"), which I put together to create the longer piece. Not sure if I'm going to break them apart again, or leave them as-is. For now, I just put it up as I read it last night. Playlist was: Today, drunk dialing and Next Time, in that order.

It was a really fun night. Teri & Aaron, Gretch & Dave, Alyssa, Becca, Jerry, Brian, and Clint & Jackie all came to cheer me on. Teri insisted that we have a couple of Irish Car Bombs, which I don't usually drink, but were rather tasty. I ended up going to Andrew's house with a few other poets after Kieran's closed, and he gave me some homebrewed cider that I think might have actually been turpentine. Thank goodness for designated drivers, I say!

I also met Jeremy and Jack last night, which means their links have been upgraded to "people i sort of know." The 4th wall has been broken! There's a glitch in the blog matrix! We people aren't supposed to meet in the flesh, are we?! Where's my keyboard? The safe glow of my monitor? Okay, so it wasn't that bad - but it was slightly jarring to see blog people in 3D.

Anyway, Jeremy gave me the coolest mix CD ever, which I've been listening to all day (and I'm not just pandering because I know he'll eventually read this). I think it's going to be the soundtrack to the nap I'm planning on taking in about ten minutes. Gotta rest up for Dirty Dancing at the Uptown with Mopsa later tonight.

Why is my fridge always empty right when I need a snack? Oh, that reminds me: when I was picking up lotion at the co-op yesterday, I was in the mood for a sweet, but didn't want chocolate. I ended up buying an organic sesame bar with molasses and black cumin. I like the sesame seeds and molasses, but the black cumin is a little harsh. Interesting overall, though.

I knew if I poked around the web long enough I'd find my little Irish hostess! You ever tell anybody I sleep with my tongue poking out of my mouth I'll...write a journal entry about you! or something...

Had fun while I was conscious.
You ever make it Ohio way, we'll bump nips.
