Procrastination Makes It Happen

I once read a great quote by Dave Eggers where he said something along the lines of (and I'm misquoting , bear with me), "Procrastination is the manufacture of an exciting life." His argument being that the more you procrastinate, the more drama you have because you're always rushing toward something.

I can't tell if I do too much, or if I procrastinate. This weekend, I think I procrastinated.

Still remaining on my "list of things to do this weekend" at nearly 11pm on Sunday night are:

- Balance checkbook
- Finish editing fundraising letter, send to board
- Iron shirts
- Grocery shopping
- Pack gym bag for Monday am
- Clean apartment (do dishes, scrub bathroom, sweep floors)

So, what did I do? Saw some poetry, went to a party, slept in, went clothes shopping (the only score was a pair of tuxedo pants from Ragstock), went to a movie, knit, watched Rear Window with my mom, knit, took myself to breakfast, read two chapters of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, did 4 loads of laundry, knit, went to Office Depot (needed a chair mat for my new rolling desk chair) and CompUSA (researching a router for my 2 laptops), had dinner with my parents and knit. So it's not like I'm lazy...I'm just scattered.

The thing is, I really like starting off on Monday with a clean slate: clean apartment, laundry all ironed and folded and in its place, refrigerator stocked, life in order. I like laying down on Sunday night and feeling like I have a crisp, clean week ahead of me. Don't get me wrong, I know it's going to be a total mess by Wednesday, but it's nice to start fresh.

Bah! I guess I better go pack my gym bag.
