If you've tried to call

If you've tried to call me on my cell phone in the last couple of weeks, you know it's out of commission. I dropped it and rendered it useless. The good news is that I'm getting a new one very soon and I'll have the same phone number. The bad news is that cell phone waste is a huge and ever-growing pollution threat. Even though they're small, they're jam-packed with all sorts of nasty pollutants (which means you should not lick it).

So having a cell phone to dispose of and not wanting to be part of the problem, I emailed Hennepin County about how to dispose of my old phone. Here's what you should know if you live in Hennepin County, MN and have a cell phone to dispose of:

If it works, donate it:

Project for Pride in Living
850 15th Ave. N.E., Minneapolis
(612) 789-3322
Sells used cell phones (working only)

Domestic Abuse Project
204 W. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55404
(612) 874-7063 then press 0.
Donated cell phones (working or repairable) will be distributed to women who are in abusive situations and need cell phones for their safety.

It it doesn't work, recycle it at the Brooklyn Park Recycling Center & Transfer Station or the South Hennepin Recycling & Problem Waste Drop-Off Center
